Cannabis hope for Big C patients | The Sun |News:

CANNABIS is to be given to cancer sufferers to ease their pain in a first for UK hospitals.

Terminally-ill patients will get marijuana-based Sativex in spray form, to be squirted under the tongue up to ten times a day.

It is hoped it will help those who have been unable to get adequate relief from other treatments, such as morphine.

But it does NOT give users a high. British-made Sativex has been prescribed for multiple sclerosis since last year, but has not been used in hospitals.

It will be trialled at North Manchester General Hospital and Fairfield General Hospital in nearby Bury. Pennine Trust research nurse Sam Jole called the trial "ground-breaking".

He added: "I've never come across anything like it."
