NASHUA – When Stephen Hill stood before the judge during a plea and sentencing hearing on a drug charge Tuesday, he faced two paths.
Judge Diane Nicolosi had discretion to impose the deal recommended by Assistant Hillsborough County Attorney Brett J. Harpster, which would result in Hill spending about 119 days in jail in addition to receiving a suspended sentence and a year of probation, as well as paying a $500 fine.
Or, Nicolosi could impose the sentence recommended by Hill’s attorney, Ghazi D. Al-Marayati. Under that proposal, Hill would serve no jail time, but instead receive a 12-month suspended sentence and two years of probation.
“I’m terrified right now what the results of this might be,” Hill told Nicolosi at the Hillsborough County Superior Court hearing.
Hill, 33, said he deserved to be punished for trying to fill a fraudulent Oxycontin prescription at a Nashua pharmacy last August. But he pleaded for Nicolosi to “punish me in a way that helps me, that doesn’t set me back.”
Hill admitted he has battled drug addiction for years.
