Jimmel Cannon was shot eight times by police, according to his parents. He was taken to a local hospital Monday night with wounds to his hands, shoulders and legs.
Police reportedly said they were called to a neighborhood on Chicago's northwest side at around 11:00 p.m. local time Monday to investigate shots fired. They saw Cannon, who matched a description they were given. Police said that the boy had a weapon and refused to drop it when police ordered him to.
Cannon's parents said the boy was not holding anything and said he had his hands in the air when he was shot, according to the station.
A police spokesperson said the weapon turned out to be a BB-gun, but added that police acted appropriately because toy guns are often indistinguishable from a real weapon.
After hearing of felon’s ‘good work,’ judge cuts him a break in plea deal - NashuaTelegraph.com

NASHUA – When Stephen Hill stood before the judge during a plea and sentencing hearing on a drug charge Tuesday, he faced two paths.
Judge Diane Nicolosi had discretion to impose the deal recommended by Assistant Hillsborough County Attorney Brett J. Harpster, which would result in Hill spending about 119 days in jail in addition to receiving a suspended sentence and a year of probation, as well as paying a $500 fine.
Or, Nicolosi could impose the sentence recommended by Hill’s attorney, Ghazi D. Al-Marayati. Under that proposal, Hill would serve no jail time, but instead receive a 12-month suspended sentence and two years of probation.
“I’m terrified right now what the results of this might be,” Hill told Nicolosi at the Hillsborough County Superior Court hearing.
Hill, 33, said he deserved to be punished for trying to fill a fraudulent Oxycontin prescription at a Nashua pharmacy last August. But he pleaded for Nicolosi to “punish me in a way that helps me, that doesn’t set me back.”
Hill admitted he has battled drug addiction for years.

South African man thought to be dead wakes after 21 hours in morgue fridge | World news | The Guardian

A man woke up to find himself in a morgue fridge nearly a day after his family thought he had died, a South African health official said.
Health department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said that the man, aged 50, awoke on Sunday afternoon, 21 hours after his family called in an undertaker who sent him to the morgue after an asthma attack.
Morgue owner Ayanda Maqolo said he sent his driver to collect the body shortly after the family reported the death.
"When he got there, the driver examined the body, checked his pulse, looked for a heartbeat, but there was nothing," Maqolo said.
But a day after staff put the body into a locked refrigerated compartment, morgue workers heard someone shouting for help. They thought it was a ghost, the morgue owner said.
"I couldn't believe it!" Maqolo said. "I was also scared. But they are my employees and I had to show them I wasn't scared, so I called the police."
After police arrived, the group entered the morgue together.WikiLeaks & Anon boycott paypal, stocks drop 1B$
The Political Commentator (TPC): Must hear: Steve Wynn slams Obama as the anti-business, socialist President (Video)

Prison Planet.com » If election held today, Obama would lose in ‘landslide’
National Journal

President Obama’s job approval rating in the latest national polls has been in the danger zone, ranging from 42 percent (Gallup) to 47 percent (ABC News/Washington Post), with every survey showing him with higher unfavorables than favorables. Needless to say, it’s not a good place for a president to be, especially since his numbers have worsened over the past two months.
The race for president isn’t a national contest. It’s a state-by-state battle to cobble an electoral vote majority. So while the national polls are useful in gauging the president’s popularity, the more instructive numbers are those from the battlegrounds.
Those polls are even more ominous for the president: In every reputable battleground state poll conducted over the past month, Obama’s support is weak. In most of them, he trails Republican front-runner Mitt Romney. For all the talk of a closely fought 2012 election, if Obama can’t turn around his fortunes in states such as Michigan and New Hampshire, next year’s presidential election could end up being a GOP landslide.
Take Ohio, a perennial battleground in which Obama has campaigned more than in any other state (outside of the D.C. metropolitan region). Fifty percent of Ohio voters now disapprove of his job performance, compared with 46 percent who approve, according to a Quinnipiac poll conducted from July 12-18.

Chinese Parents Sell Children To Pay For Video Game Addiction (VIDEO)
Gaming addiction is bad, but this is downright wrong.
A Chinese couple, Li Lin and Li Juan, is being accused of apparently selling all three of their children in order to pay for playing video games at internet cafes, according to the southern Chinese paper Sanxiang City News. ABC News Radio, who picked up the story, reported that the couple, both of whom were under 21, met in an Internet cafe in 2001.
According to Game Politics, things began to go bad in 2009, when they decided they would sell their second child, a girl, for $500. When that worked, they allegedly went back to see what they could get for their first child, a boy.
He brought in $4,600 (30,000 RMB).
So, according to ABC, when the couple had their third child, they repeated the process, again raking in another $4,600.
The sales came to light when the father's mother finally turned them in. According to Sanxiang City News, the parents claimed they didn't know they were breaking the law.
This is far and away not the first time gaming addiction has resulted in poor parenting. Earlier this year, an Osaka, Japan mother was accused of killing her three-year-old, because the child threw out her gaming system.
The condition is also just as likely to develop in children as adults. One study showed that as many as 1 in 10 children are at risk to become video game addicts.
Police beat and taser 'gentle' mentally-ill homeless man Kelly Thomas, 37 to death | Mail Online
Last updated at 6:27 PM on 27th July 2011
A shocking video has been released allegedly showing police officers tasering and beating a homeless man to death who they claim was resisting arrest.
Though the video is not clear, eye witnesses say the homeless man - Kelly Thomas, 37 - was unable to put up any resistance and was lying on the ground on his front when the attack took place on July 5.
His screams and cries for his father can be heard amid the tasering noises.
The video was shot by a student in Fullerton, California. Kelly Thomas was beaten so badly he died in hospital several days later.
According to Gawker, Thomas - who suffered from schizophrenia - caught the attention of the police after someone reported that a burglar was breaking into cars parked near a Fullerton bus station.
When officers approached Thomas in the depot parking lot and tried to arrest him, he resisted.
